May: Speech and Hearing Awareness Month - Tip nº5

THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF MAY, WE SHOULD ALL RAISE AWARENESS OF HEARING HAZARDS AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

Tip 5: Take a break

When you are listening to the loud noises then a break for sometime is very important, don’t be very consistent while listening to the louder noises. This thing has been proven that the length of time you are exposed to the louder sound is as significant as the volume of noise so try to avoid the longer listening of loud sound.

If you notice a change in your hearing, contact your doctor. Otolaryngologists are doctors who specialize in the ears, nose, throat and neck. Your regular doctor can refer you to one.

May: Speech and Hearing Awareness Month - Tip nº2

THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF MAY, WE SHOULD ALL RAISE AWARENESS OF HEARING HAZARDS AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

Tip 2:
There are three things to consider about noise: HOW LOUD, HOW LONG & HOW CLOSE

1. How loud: Noises in excess of 85 decibels are considered by qualified audiologists to be in the danger zone for hearing health. Eliminate unwanted noise and keep television, stereo and radio at a low or moderate.volume.
2. How long: Try to limit the amount of time you are exposed to loud noises.
3. How close: If you are in a noisy environment, close to the noise source, protect your hearing with devices such as earplugs.

Remember, the best way to avoid noise-induced hearing loss is to work on prevention early in life.
